Sick Story...a non dpc thread

You ball fans will be sick by this...
I work with a lady who comes to me and says, "Look at this baseball card set my husband inherited from grandpa."
Well this card set looked legit to me. It was the entire complete set of 1916 Sporting News baseball cards...all 201 of them, including Babe Ruth Redsox rookie. And they were perfect...apparently grandpa had em in a lock box forever.

She asks me if she should sell em to this guy from chicago who is coming to look at them if he makes an offer. I said I would get at least a few offers cause they sure look real to me.
She sold them last night anyway to the guy for $4000.

I am sick cause I didn't research it for her. (she says her husband researched them). The Babe card in great condition sold recently for over 200k. Disgusting. There was also a Joe Jackson that sold for 68k.

Not only that, the "best" rated set out there is only 98% complete.
I seriously pray she never finds out what she did.

Is this a true story?? If so you gotta love the guy who threw 4 grand out there to see what he was working with. Reminds me of RJO's dad negotiating with the blockbuster video kid over a $20 late fee......went something like this. How bout I give you ten, you throw in the two movies and we call it good. Lol still makes me laugh today!

I thought u were just copying a story you read. That's really sad, but how can she not know what that's worth. If u Google it I'm sure it will tell you the value. Too bad for her and whoever save them for almost 100 years.

exactly. it took me all of 10 seconds to google it ,which is why I feel bad I shoul d have done it before. the worst part is her husband is a cop ...they definitely should have been smarter then that ....
